SPUG: Giving up on computer jobs & usefulness of placement firms

as several people on this thread mentioned there are indeed several 
companies hiring right right now and finding an open  postion involves 
connecting with the right people.
i was wondering if anyone had recomendations for working with a placement 
firm.
one firm that i have met i.e. http://www.allenandassociates.com/ has quite 
convincing marketing. best best regards
