As I am a surfer I think I have to chime in as shark attacks happened
at my favorite surf spots recently in Texas. We had 3 cases this
season, none last season and it always happened early in the morning
or late evening.
Sharks always choose so far male teenagers, the bites were up to 1cm
deep into the skin
(the wounds sure look pretty scary), and one teenager got his hand
terribly hurt while he hit the shark
on his head. I guess he cannot surf now for a whole month.

Rattle snakes are the most danger to surfers here as we have no
violent locals as on other spots.
