I had the privilege of sitting in on an O'Reilly planning meeting of 
said authors plus publishing staff.  Nothing confidential in what I 
said though.  The hope is that the book writing will force the 
convergence of the Perl 6 design and implementation.

Absolutely.  We want fresh speakers first and foremost.

I'd rather stick to the third Tuesday of the month even if it means 
waiting.  Does it conflict with any other meetings?

However, I will be in Japan October 14 - 25... doesn't mean you can't 
meet without me though.
