For client stuff, I <3 Svelte hard these days.

For Perl servers, there is Dancer2 that is relatively simple and nimble. 
The guy who came up with its plugin structure is a nutjob, but the rest 
of the Dancer crew are quite a sharp bunch.

(Mojolicious also gets a lot of love these days too)
