    ====================================================

This coming Tuesday, December 18th, is the next meeting of the THE SEATTLE
PERL USERS GROUP.

This month, Randal L. Schwartz will speak about Perl Web Testing: using
Test::More and WWW::Mechanize to write automated testing for web
applications.

If you don't know who Randal is, then you haven't been paying attention
to Perl. He has been a Perl community mainstay for nearly two decades,
frequenting Perl mailing lists, newsgroups, IRC channels and, more recently,
the PerlMonks website.

His wikipedia article says this:

    Randal L. Schwartz (born November 22, 1961) is an American author,
    system administrator and programming consultant. Schwartz is the co-
    author of several widely used books about Perl, a programming
    language for computers, and has written regular columns about Perl
    for several computer magazines. He popularized the Just another Perl
    hacker signature programs. He is a founding board member of the Perl
    Mongers, the worldwide Perl grassroots advocacy organization. He is
    currently a co-host on FLOSS Weekly.

His magazine articles are archived at his Stonehenge (Perl Training and
Consulting) website [1] and you may find his PerlMonks postings from his
member page [2].

Please RSVP for the meeting, to Gryphon Shafer <gryphon at gryphonshafer.com>,
and also let us know if you'll be attending the pre-meeting celebration
(see below for details).

Perl's 20th Birthday

On December 18th, 1987, Larry Wall unleashed Perl 1.000 on the world (see
the Perl Timeline [3]).

We are going to celebrate Perl's birthday with pre-meeting dinner
and drinks at the Pike Place Brew Pub [4], and with birthday cake at
the meeting.

Unfortunately, since its twenty first birthday is next year, Perl will
have to wait outside while we enjoy adult beverages and tell Python and
Ruby jokes.

================

Thanks again to all the SPUG members that show up at meetings or
participate on the list to make the group worthwhile in the first place,
and all the JAPHs out there for just being.
