Job Description: Oracle Application Developer/PERL Developer

Primary responsibility of this position is to migrate existing MySQL
database back end to Oracle and maintain portability of the data between
both systems. Secondary responsibility is to create, maintain and
enhance mod_perl data access layer objects in a high volume web
application. The application will be deployed with Oracle or MySQL back
end. All systems run on Red Hat Linux. The developer will also act as a
technical resource for database issues; for the development team and the
deployment team. This position is responsible for planning and
implementing a quality, reliable and scalable on-line educational
assessment and reporting system.


Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

. Plan, design, and document Oracle implementation of existing MySQL
database.
. Maintain and optimize Oracle database. Must be scalable, handle
high transaction volume, and enforce strict data integrity.
. Plan and execute migration of data between MySQL database and
Oracle. Develop tools/scripts as needed.
. Design, document, implement, and maintain data access layer for
web application in mod_perl.
. Integrate with concurrent development projects; including version
control, project estimation.
. Locate and fix bugs in Database and mod_perl application.
Develop unit tests and documentation. Work with quality assurance team.
. Report on progress against project milestones, identify and manage
risk.
. Review and recommend technologies.


Education and/or Experience:

. Bachelor's degree in computer science or an equivalent combination
of education and experience.
. 3-5 years of Oracle application development experience.
. 2-4 years experience in Apache/ mod_perl web application development.
. 2+ years of MySQL database development.
. Red Hat Linux experience preferred.


Specialized Knowledge and Skills

. Experience working with large transactional Oracle databases.
. Experience working with high volume web applications.
. Good understanding of databases, schemas, and access commands.
. Experience in designing/implement applications deployed at multiple
data centers.
. Experience programming in mod_perl with MySQL and Oracle as back
ends.
. In-depth knowledge of Linux/Apache/mod_perl/DBI.
. In-depth knowledge of Oracle on Linux.
