[baltimorepm] Baltimore-pm Digest, Vol 65, Issue 1

Hi Zaki,

That's great you are interested in hosting the Baltimore meetup! You can
clone the baltimore.pm.org project on github and I can check on how to
transfer the pm.org for the mailing list and site to you if you are serious
about it.

Some of the hardest problems I had with hosting was finding people willing
to present topics. If I couldn't get a volunteer or a guest, I'd have to
come up with my own presentation or advertise an open-mic style meeting.
Because topics were hard to come by, meeting turnout typically ran about
4-7 people, or up to 10-15 if we had a guest. We typically ran meetings as
groups of presentations or occasionally social, but hadn't tried
hackathons. It's been a while since I've hosted, so I'm not sure what would
get people excited again.

Given the size of our meetup when I hosted before, a local library may have
enough space to get started back up if you're not looking to do a social
meetup to start. The other members of this mailing list could have
location ideas as well, but you'll have to decide if you'll host the
meetups inside the city or out in the areas surrounding it like Glen Burnie
or Towson, etc.

Also, sometimes there would be expenses I'd cover as an organizer, but
*SmartLogic* was pretty great at helping cover some costs that I'd
otherwise have had to pay out of pocket like pizza. And at one point they
even let us use their workspace as a meetup location as well, though they
may not have that available anymore, due to so many workplaces going
virtual since COVID.

I'm looking forward to hearing from you.

Thanks,
Dawn
