Those are ways to find people who believe in the etymology "sin cere".
Nevertheless, I cited (Wikipedia citing) the Oxford English Dictionary
and the American Heritage Dictionary.  Both are considered quite
reputable and knowledgable.  Seagulls don't explode if you feed them
Alka-Seltzer, for example, regardless of the thousands of Web sites
that say that they do.

If you're interested in urban legends, e-mailed lore, and such, I
suggest http://www.snopes.com/, http://straightdope.com/ (from the
Straight Dope columns by "Cecil Adams"), and
http://alt-usage-english.org/ (their FAQ also says that the "without
wax" explanation is not true).
