Two evening social events

AFAIK, Harry Knowles is merely a patron of Alamo Drafthouse - not the owner (I've seen him at a couple of screenings). See:
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Alamo_Drafthouse_Cinema#Company_sold

However, Reini's right on this - if you want to see a Drafthouse movie, you need to buy your tickets in advance. Many of the locations now require you to select your seat ahead of time (part of the online ticket purchase process), and you'd be surprised how quickly showings sell out or sell down to just a few bad seats.

Great!

Beware that this cinema is a world legend. Maybe even more famous than the chinese theatre in Hollywood.
Home of the legendary SXSW movie festival where e.g. the mumblecore movement was born - Greta Gerwig now being a big star, where every wednesday legendary bad movie nights are held (e.g. with Tsui Hark, one of the best HongKong directors who happen to study in Austin), with legendary self-made trailers of very bad 70ies movies before every screening, that's why this theatre is packed at least 30 minutes before, not to miss these trailers, with personal introduction of the movie selector (who happens to be either a famous actor, director or famous critic), and so on.
The owner Harry Knowles does "Ain't It Cool News" http://www.aintitcool.com/ Not to miss when you are in Austin.

The downsides:
- You eat in the theatre so it smells of garlic and food.
- Do not sit in the first row. You'll see nothing.
