I've had this one on my blog for some time now.

It uses a software called smstools . It can be an easy alternative for any
high cost mobile alert systems etc.We'd used it with Nagios in Red Hat for
system alerts to be messaged to our mobile phones.

For the one with kannel, the write-up is little different, I'll try writing
that and posting it here. It has two modes of operation- one using the GSM
modem and the other using the SMPP gateway from QTel .
