[Ottawa-pm] Git: Tag a remote repo?

I've been searching but I haven't had much luck figuring this one out;

I have cloned a git repo, pushed my changes back to the origin repo and now
I want to tag the origin.

I had attempted to do that during the push as:

git push origin master:/refs/tag/<tagname>

That's what I thought the man page said would do but it just made a tag in
my master repo.

How do I tag the remote? Does anyone know?

Thanks,
