It's that time again...

The second 'official' HRPM meeting will be held at 7:30PM thisThursday
(11/18) at the home of the Flamingo Internet Navigators (directions
below).

This month Christopher Hicks (of Flamingo Internet Navigators
http://www.fini.net/) has kindly offered to give an informal
demonstration of how to use MySQL from within Perl. MySQL
(http://www.mysql.com) is a freely available relational database
management system that implements the Structured Query Language (SQL)
--a standardized language that makes it easy to store, update and access
information.

Their homepage reports that the main goals of MySQL are speed,
robustness, and ease of use. Indeed the creators of MySQL have been
using it since 1996 to manage more than 40 databases containing 10,000
tables, of which more than 500 have 7 million rows! That's a lot of
data...and the great thing is that MySQL integrates very well with Perl,
allowing you to build extremely powerful and efficient web front-ends to
your data. For a list of some current MySQL users take a look at
http://www.mysql.com/users.html.

If that doesn't sound good enough, at the last meeting there were
chilled beverages on ice--so you can at least get a free Coke or Root
Beer...
