G'day everyone,

This is a quick reminder to let you know that the OSD Club meeting is on THIS
week. It's being hosted by Melbourne PHP

	Thursday September 1, 2005, 6:30pm
	RMIT Building 56, Level 6, room 56-5-88

and we're getting a great set of talks:

Paul Fenwick: Conference Presentation Mind Control
	---------------------------------------------------

At the heart of any good conference are its presenters. To learn new
skills and discover new ideas are what conferences are all about -- at
least that's what you tell your boss when you apply for funding.
Presenting is a rewarding, and often prestigious activity, but some
speakers seem to do it better than others.

Paul Fenwick shares his experiences of almost a decade of teaching and
public speaking. Discover how to keep your audience's attention, how to
improve your presentation techniques, and how to use mind control to get
	others to do your bidding.

Jon Oxer: Making Things Move: Totally Inappropriate Uses For Scripting
	           Languages
	-----------------------------------------------------------------------

PHP is more than just a web programming language. In this talk, Jon
discusses how he's used it to control barcode scanners, electric
curtains, create a PHP-powered sprinkler system, and many more. He
covers the problems of controlling the parallel port from a scripting
language and how he got by them using a small helper program written
	in C.

Bring your friends, family, co-workers and everyone else. It'll be a great night.

All the best,

	Jacinta
