Hi Mongers,

Looks like the Free Software and Linux Club at USU
http://fslc.usu.edu/moin/ is getting active again. If you aren't on
their list, go to their site and signup.

Now that I've moved to Brigham, it's a little harder for me to come and
organize etc. Since FSLC is back up and going, I'm not sure we really
have as much of a need. We can keep the email server up and going.
Comments? Anyone think we should keep having regular meetings or have
them less often? With FSLC meeting twice a month, I'm all for just
helping them out for a while.

> Hello FSLC,
>
> We have successfully scheduled the CS Conference room for every other thursday starting this thursday until the end of the year.
>
> Here is the plan:
>
> Every month we hold an install fest and session for general questions regarding using, installing, and troubleshooting Linux and other Free and Open Source software. These meetings will be open for everyone and will be primarily geared towards those who are new to Linux or who want to try it out.
>
> Additionally each month we will hold an FSLC meeting geared towards more hardened and technical users. Again these meetings are open for all. It is in these meetings that we will present aspects of technology involving Linux and Free and Open Source. For example, in years past the club held presentations on Python, etc. We could have a presentation on command line use as an example.

>
> 1. This thursday (10/11/12) is our first install fest, 7:00 in the CS conference room! We invite all to come, but most especially bring your friends who may be interested in trying out linux or learning more about it. We would like to break the stereotype that Linux is only for those with technical prowess; I am not convinced this is the case.
>
> 2. I would like suggestions for presentations we can hold. Some suggestions at the opening social:
> Git and version control
> Advanced Command-line Usage
> Networking & Security (Wireshark)
> Grub
> Lamp
> Ruby on Rails
> GCC and Binutils (C and C++ Programming in Unix)
> We are looking for more suggestions, and for people who would like to present and teach a topic. It was mentioned at the opening social that we are looking for interactive learning, not death by powerpoint.
>
> If anyone is interested or has other suggestsion, let me know and we can schedule a date now.
