a fine idea. can someone do that asap so we don't lose more time before
yapc?

again true, but do newcomers know about the blog and where it is? do
they check it all the time? the mailing list is still a primary thing
and should stay that way. if you don't like autosubscribe (and you did),
then your mailman invitation idea is good. is that done when you sign up
to attend? bulk each week with new signups? the target is yapc newbies
who don't know the layout of the land. this is why autosubscribe is the
winner here.
