Looks like things are moving along nicely. Also, quite a few users already signed up on the site. We'll see if they go from registered to committed now that the payment option is up. The company sells professional wear, shirts and such, and would like to set up a table in our vendor space. I vaguely remember some conversation about a vendor area, but I appear to be suffering from a brain cramp and can't find it. What has been you guys experience with vendor areas in past conferences? Any suggestions on how to handle this? Should we require a particular donation like for the job fair, or should we ask for a donation of a percentage of sales? I've got zero experience with something like this, so any opinions or experience is welcome. G. If they seem truly determined, how about offering them the same deal as the job fair folks and putting them in the same place? Seems this would be the easiest way. You'd just want to make it clear to the vendor that this was experimental so they don't have unrealistic expectations--we're not Gartner. :) Jim G. I did, and the bookstore person asked me how much? I had nothing to base it on, so I suggested $750. A few weeks later they told me they weren't interested. I don't know if it was so much the price I suggested (which I think I also made clear was open to negotiations, though really if below $500 why would we bother with it?) as it was the nature & size of YAPC::NA. If you have a company that is aware of the size & nature of YAPC::NA and given that approached you to get a table set up, go for it. I think Jim's suggestion of offering the same table price as is being offered for the job fair is a good one. The thought of "professional wear" for YAPC attendees is a strange one. Do they know how we dress? Perhaps they stock tie-dye XXXL shirts for Uri. :-) Cheers, Richard On 4/9/07, Jim Brandt wrote: > > I'm not aware of any precedent with vendor tables. Deadline is midnight (CST) tonight! If you haven't created an account on the ACT-hosted YAPC::NA site, please do so and submit your proposal. Any questions about abstracts can be sent to abstracts-na at yapc.org . If you'd like to give a talk but are not quite sure what to present, look at the wiki for talk suggestions ( http://conferences.mongueurs.net/yn2007/wiki). Or if you don't plan on giving a talk, but would like to suggest one, then add it to the list of suggestions. Again, last year attendees requested talks be tagged with suggested experience level of attendee (beginner, intermediate, advanced). Please include this in the comments section of your talk if appropriate. Jeremy YAPC::NA 2007 http://www.yapc.org/America -------------- next part -------------- An HTML attachment was scrubbed... I'll be posting some ideas/proposals regarding the job fair shortly. Also, I want to visit the campus this week to scope out the location. So, I could submit a generic blurb on the fair, but I'd like to have the blurb link to a page with more granular details. These details are still being developed. I hope to have sufficient information available by this weekend. -Will On 4/13/07, Jim Brandt wrote: > > Any updates on the job fair blurb? > > Just checking... > > Jim > > -- > Jim Brandt > Conferences Chair > The Perl Foundation > email: cbrandt at perlfoundation.org > IM: cbrandtbuffalo at mac.com > perlmonks: cbrandtbuffalo > _______________________________________________ > YAPC-NA-organizers mailing list > YAPC-NA-organizers at pm.org > http://mail.pm.org/mailman/listinfo/yapc-na-organizers >
