Hordes of Perl people are going to invade Chicago, so it's your chance to meet a lot of the people you may only know by name, reputation, or irc handle. See http://conferences.mongueurs.net/yn2008/ . Don't wait until the last minute to register just because you're in Chicago! After YAPC, I've organized some master classes. Each of these are open-enrollment, two-day, low cost classes. Each class is $200 and you can register for any of these classes through The Perl Review (https://www.theperlreview.com/cgi-bin/events.cgi): We're offering two Stonehenge classes: * Beginning Catalyst, by Jon Rockway * Intermediate Perl, by brian d foy This year, we have more training organizations taking part to give their commercial classes in the low-cost master class format. These are especially important since they allow far-away people to come to YAPC by subsidizing their travel and time away from work: * Test Automation with Perl, by Gabor Szabo (Perl Training Israel). See the course description at http://www.pti.co.il/qa_automation.html * System Administration, by Jesse Trucks (League of Professional SysAdmins) See the course description at https://lopsa.org/YAPCNA2008Class This is your best chance to see Gabor's or Jesse's class in Chicago, and at far-below market prices. :) -- brian d foy http://www.pair.com/~comdog/ From frag at ripco.com Wed May 21 13:57:05 2008 From: frag at ripco.com (Mike Fragassi) Date: Wed, 21 May 2008 15:57:05 -0500 (CDT) Subject: [WindyCity-pm] [Chicago-talk] Is anyone interested in trying their hand at a lightning talk? That being said, we will be moving out of the Performics office relatively soon and I'm not sure of Google's policy on user group meetings. I'll look into it and see if we can meet at their location. However, I don't want to seem like I have the exclusive right to the location of the downtown Perl meeting and I don't even know if I can continue to host them. Does anyone else have a good location? The Google offices have been happy to host Chipy (Chicago Python) meetings a few times in the past, though they're not by any means a regular host. They provide lots and lots of pizza. FWIW. There is parking if you want to drive, but the lot across the road is $13/day so you might want to take public transit. If so, the 36, 24, and 22 are all good bus choices and the Blue line (La Salle), Red Line (Harrison), or the Orange/Pink/Brown lines (La Salle or Library) are good for the L. And finally, I'm just a few blocks (okay, just over .5 miles) from Union Station. Anyone who wants to help out with YAPC::NA is welcome to attend. When you get there ring 'McAdams' on the box. If that doesn't work, walk to the West side of the building and yell... Sunday is looking beautiful according to the forecast so I'll have the windows open :) C you there Josh
