Grant's out warning school children about the dangers of computers - or something, I wasn't really listening - but I'm sure he'd be glad to have offers of talks when he gets in later. I was mostly after an update ... Why did I ask? :-) Well, I didn't have any particular topic in mind but since I have the opportunity. (1) Lately, I have had little success with performance profiling of my Perl code. (2) It would be interesting to me if somebody could explain the Perl ecosystem (backpan, darkpan prepan, cpan, metacpan, cpan-tester, Perl foundation, grants ... Perl 6 ... I am certainly missing many bits here) and how these things relate to each other (or not). The more I read about it the more I feel like I am missing parts of the puzzle. This could even be the topic of a conversational non-presentation. See you all tomorrow anyway Regards, Florent On Mon, May 11, 2015 at 1:01 PM, Grant McLean wrote: > On Mon, 2015-05-11 at 10:20 +1200, Florent Mara wrote: > > > I guess it is a little late to suggest a topic ... > > Suggest away! When it comes to performance profiling I tend to say "use Devel::NYTProf" and move on. So I don't actually have a lot of experience with using it. Maybe someone who does could think about doing a talk on it (or other tools) in the future. It might be helpful if you could be more specific about the kind of things you had trouble with. > (2) It would be interesting to me if somebody could explain the > Perl ecosystem (backpan, darkpan prepan, cpan, metacpan, > cpan-tester, Perl foundation, grants ... I'd be more than happy to share my knowledge of such matters in a "conversational non-presentation" mode :-) I shall endeavour to ensure there's beer in the fridge and maybe find a whiteboard. It sounds like we're going to have a fairly informal 'not presentation' about how CPAN works and the ecosystem around it. Feel free to bring other topics for discussion.
