Unfortunately I'm going to be out of town next Tuesday. Also I haven't had any volunteers to speak. So, unless someone pops up to organise the meeting and finds a speaker or two then it's off for this month. The next meeting will be on June 10th. I'd be delighted to hear from anyone wanting to do a talk at that meeting. We can always have an informal one (ie. no speakers). What's the interest in that? I'd be happy to glean details off Grant so we can still go to Level 4 and chat. Alternatively, if someone does volunteer, I'm happy to get that organised too but let's go for an informal one unless someone can speak (or maybe half'n'half). If it's informal, another idea is to just point a finger at someone and say 'Talk to us for 5 minutes on something'. No prep. required. I'm very keen to hear from anyone who has something to talk about. Remember, if you volunteer today, you'll have two whole weeks to get your thoughts together. If you only have something short to say, that's fine too. If there's a subject you'd really like to hear about, then pipe up here on the mailing list and we'll see if we can flush out someone who knows about it. This one looks at the various phases a programmer goes through as they gain experience and draws a parallel between the noob programmers excessive commenting and the practice of excessive typing. http://steve-yegge.blogspot.com/2008/02/portrait-of-n00b.html It is quite long (as Steve's posts tend to be) but worth a read anyway. If you've ever worked on a team of more than one programmer I'm sure you'll recognise descriptions of some of your colleagues. If you're honest, you'll probably even recognise descriptions of yourself :-) Cheers Grant From brenda at wallace.net.nz Thu May 29 16:52:49 2008 From: brenda at wallace.net.nz (Brenda Wallace) Date: Fri, 30 May 2008 11:52:49 +1200 Subject: [Wellington-pm] Wellington - June Mini Happy Dev House Message-ID: <200805301152.49957.brenda@wallace.net.nz> MiniHappyDevHouse is the first sunday of each month, so the next one is 1st of June - this one is themed "Hello World" - in obscure but awesome languages ?;) A few people will be giving lightning talks on some really obscure languages, how you code a "hello world" program in them and some of their unique features.
