From vlaanderen.pm at wendy.org Tue Oct 3 04:07:13 2017 From: vlaanderen.pm at wendy.org (Wendy) Date: Tue, 03 Oct 2017 13:07:13 +0200 Subject: [Vlaanderen] Thursday evening! Emergency social meeting Brussels on 5 october: Jim Keenan - part 3 Message-ID: <273611919207051@otje> Hi folks, Hope to see you in two days in Brussels. Liz and I and Jim Keenan and Claudio will be there. Let me know if you come too, maybe I have to reserve a larger table than a table for six (yeah, at the moment just 4 coming). See you soon. Kind regards, Wendy van Dijk ============ Dear Flemish Perl Mongers, I got one reaction... so that would be me, Liz, Claudio and Jim Keenan. I hope some more people like the idea of a meeting with Jim Keenan. So, Jim reacted to my message about an emergency social meeting, that he really likes to add some more content to the meeting, by giving a talk. Also, he would like to get some input from you, Brussels / Flemish / Belgian Perl Mongers. Maybe you don't like the location (Porteuse d'Eau, which does have a nice 1st floor upstairs, where we can have presentations and discussions), maybe you want to come together somewhere else. Counter-proposals are very much welcome. So, please, react. Also, he has two proposals for a presentation he wants to give. So, here is his text. Comments, please. Kind regards, Wendy van Dijk ------------------ 1. My TPC talk from this past June: text: http://thenceforward.net/perl/tpc/TPC-NA-2017/p5-codebase-health.pdf slides: http://thenceforward.net/perl/tpc/TPC-NA-2017/slides/ Advantage: Almost entirely ready; would need to be updated to reflect that since TPC we actually have some new smoke testers. Disadvantage: It's been up on Youtube for nearly 3 months, so some may have seen it already. I've given it twice already, so I'm a bit bored with it. 2. A talk, the text of which is mostly written, on a situation I had recently where I had to figure out how to bisect the perl 5 repository to identify where certain aspects of the Perl 5 debugger broke. text: https://gist.github.com/jkeenan/ad936790c2e56212ca5b2b9377fabd16 Advantage: It was a bit of hacking of which I was proud, so I wouldn't mind making up slides for a presentation. Illustrates a practical case for bisection. Disadvantage: The subject may seem overly obscure and "insider". *** In either case, I want to prepare opening slides in each of French and Dutch. *** ------------------ =================================================== Dear fellow Flemish Perl Mongers, I hope some of you want to meet Jim, Liz and me at La Porteuse d'Eau in Brussels on Thursday 5 october 19:00. Read all about it... below... Kind regards, Wendy van Dijk ===== Hi Jim, Liz and I have been to a couple of Brussels Perl Mongers meetings, but our French is just not good enough... I know they understand and speak English, so I hope we can have a meeting, and not just with the Brussels Perl Mongers, also with the Flemish Perl Mongers. Nice to have an emergency social meeting. For Liz and me, Thursday 5 october would be fine. I would like to propose having dinner at the regular dinner place for the Perl group during FOSDEM: La Porteuse d'Eau (see also https://wendyga.wordpress.com/2017/02/04/meet-perl-at-fosdem-2017-in-brussels-belgium-booth-devroom-dinner/ ). Liz and I like the place very much. We had dinner there with up to 80 people. And I can reserve seats for a group, but I need to give them an estimate of the number of people coming! Tell me!! So, dear Brussels Perl Mongers, anybody interested in meeting the great Jim Keenan (he is around in Perl as long as Liz and I are, speaks at many conferences and workshops, works at hackathons, has loads of modules on CPAN) on Thursday 5 october at 19:00 at La Porteuse d'Eau? Liz and I will be there too. And I blindly assume we can also invite the Flemish Perl Mongers! I will do that invitation. For now, we have at least three people: Liz, Wendy, Jim.
