I could possibly talk about my current plans to quickly implement an ACID-compliant relational database in pure perl, mainly as a reference implementation of Rosetta rather than for long term use, since it will have perl 5 and perl 6 versions, and I'm working to have it made "real soon now". This and other database access stuff, since I have a lot of changes to report since last time. I can't promise that I would have a working demo by then, or a slide show, or handouts, but I can try. Note that other perl 6 people like autrijus are now desiring for a perl 6 native DBI, real soon for pugs testing purposes, which I was asked to deliver, and Rosetta will be my first implementation of such. Other topics and questions can fill time if necessary, though I could bring up interesting things for the whole time. Either way, the meeting *should* go ahead. -- Darren Duncan From Peter at PSDT.com Thu Nov 10 12:42:09 2005 From: Peter at PSDT.com (Peter Scott) Date: Thu, 10 Nov 2005 12:42:09 -0800 Subject: [VPM] Victoria Perl Mongers Message-ID: <6.1.2.0.2.20051110123552.025b9d88@mail.webquarry.com> Victoria.pm will meet at its regular date and time on Tuesday, November 15, 7pm, at UVic, room to be announced the day before (hi Clarke!) I will talk about new operators in Perl 6. Darren Duncan will talk about his current plans to quickly implement an ACID-compliant relational database in pure Perl. We have room for other topics, so if you either want to present something or hear about something, contact me. Presentations need not be restricted to Perl; we can learn by expanding our horizons so Ruby, Python, and Haskell, for instance, are all valid. Topics in functional or O-O programming, parsing, or data structures are equally useful. (Courtesy copy to VLUG members by permission of the list manager.
