I think we have our confidence back now though and are well braced for the problems outlined in that post. Almost every time the author talks about how ill-prepared they are for certain problems, I thought, "gee, i'm sure glad we've got such an awesome and active perl community churning through these issues already." :) Luke From peter at psdt.com Mon Sep 7 06:32:45 2009 From: peter at psdt.com (Peter Scott) Date: Mon, 7 Sep 2009 06:32:45 -0700 Subject: [Van-pm] python guys In-Reply-To: References: Message-ID: At 11:39 PM -0700 9/6/09, Luke Closs wrote: >Is it just me, or does it seem like this post on python is a little panic-y? > >http://jacobian.org/writing/snakes-on-the-web/ > >It sounds like the Perl community a few years ago. If the author is right about the importance of parallelism, Perl 6 will take the world by storm with its STM, hyperoperators, and junctions. Heh, it certainly does seem that he is hankering for Parrot at least, as I mentioned in the comments. I don't think it's python that has the problems though. I think it's more WSGI and related stuff. BTW, is Perl6/parrot usable for projects yet? -- Kevin Beckford Lead Developer, Lazyweb Construction Company, http://lazyweb.ca kevin at lazyweb.ca From christie.a.wilson at gmail.com Tue Sep 8 14:40:21 2009 From: christie.a.wilson at gmail.com (Christie Wilson) Date: Tue, 8 Sep 2009 14:40:21 -0700 Subject: [Van-pm] REMINDER Wednesday Sept 9 = 6:30 @ Gossamer Threads Message-ID: Hello everyone! I'm sure he has lots of stories and souvenirs for all of us (p.s. I collect snowglobes). For food, we'll have a keg of beer and pizza. Donations (~$10?) are welcome and appreciated. At tonight's meeting, we decided that this Friday will be our 3rd SHHH night, after Critical Mass. The main project will be our kegerator, and we should have a ponykeg to hook up, thanks to Dallas++. We're going to keep this SHHH more low-key, we will only be downstairs at VHS (not in the giant space upstairs), so we're intentionally promoting this less than other ones.
