Run it something like this: perl pm-xearth.pl perl_mongers.xml >pm.xearth and then xearth something like this xearth -markerfile pm.xearth and then you have an X root window full of perl monger groups. (Except on Gnome, where Gnome puts its desktop background in front of the X root window and I've not yet worked out where the "transparent" option on the "solid colour or wallpaper" choice is. :-) KDE may also suffer from something like this. I'm tempted to bin gnome and upgrade my work box to pure clean fvwm perl 5.8.0 or later recommended, as 5.6.1 seems to spew out utf8 without provocation or warning. (Bogot.pm and some others have accented names) Nicholas Clark ----- End forwarded message ----- -- Chris Benson From nick at unfortu.net Tue Apr 8 15:35:56 2003 From: nick at unfortu.net (Nicholas Clark) Date: Wed Aug 4 00:11:00 2004 Subject: Website In-Reply-To: <20030408210452.B28780@gamma.home> References: <20030408210452.B28780@gamma.home> Message-ID: <20030408203556.GB463@Bagpuss.unfortu.net> On Tue, Apr 08, 2003 at 09:04:52PM +0100, Chris Benson wrote: > ----- Forwarded message from Nicholas Clark ----- > (Except on Gnome, where Gnome puts its desktop background in front of the > X root window and I've not yet worked out where the "transparent" option > on the "solid colour or wallpaper" choice is. :-) It's a preference on Nautilus. (uncheck a box about Nautilus drawing the desktop. At this point your desktop wallpaper seamless becomes the root window, rather than being another window drawn on top of it) If you just xkill the window that is the desktop then Nautilus respawns. It's undead, I tell you. :-) Nicholas Clark PS Is this list really still running on majordomo?
