[tpm] New York Perlmongers: new mailing list

Toronto.pm friends,

I'm looking forward to this afternoon's videocast on how SUSE is using
Perl. I posted about this on the new New York Perlmongers mailing list
(https://groups.google.com/g/new-york-perlmongers/c/LjUILLC2mfI/m/0FwDSwDnBwAJ).

Did you say, "new" NY.pm mailing list? Yes, that's right. We're
discontinuing (a) use of the mailing list technology we've used since
1997 or so; and (b) our account at Meetup.com. The former is
antiquated; the latter is too expensive relative to our needs.

Instead, we have decided, like other Perlmonger groups and other small,
volunteer-run groups, to use a Google Group to provide us with both
mailing list functionality and a minimal web presence. Our new address is:

https://groups.google.com/g/new-york-perlmongers

We decided as policy not to automatically transfer emails from the old
list onto the new list. Rather, we invite people to join or ask people
to request membership. This is an anti-trolling measure which other
groups have found reasonably effective.

If you were subscribed to either the old ny.pm mailing list or to our
meetup.com page, please go to the URL above and ask to join the new New
York Perlmongers group. Or email me off-list and ask me to add your
email address to the new list. (That email address does not have to be
a Gmail account, but it *does* have to be associated with *some* Google
account, e.g., a YouTube account.)

Of course, you're also welcome to join if you're simply interested in
Perl-related activities and discussions in the New York City area.

Thank you very much.
Jim Keenan
