It's going to take place virtually on Thursday July 30, the last Thursday of the month, as we've been doing for the longest time. I hope you are all doing well, wherever you are, and staying safe and healthy. Last month was the Conference in the Clouds, where close to 300 folks listened to a variety of talks over three days. There are now videos from the conference, all uploaded to Youtube, for your consumption. I do not have a confirmed presenter for July, but let me make some inquiries and see what I can find. I'll update the meeetup.com page as more information comes to light. While I see about lining up a speaker, I encourage you to look up the talks from last month's CiC: https://www.youtube.com/user/yapcna Whether or not we have a speaker, I'd like to hear from the group which of these videos you enjoyed, and what topics interested you. At the presenter's request, this talk won't be streamed to Youtube -- you've gotta watch it live! Jim and I just finished doing our tech rehearsal, and everything looks to be working fine. As before, I will start the broadcast at 650pm on Thursday, and will then post the streamyard URL to the mailing list and on the meetup.com page. Click on that URL, I'll see you in the Control Room and I'll add you to the broadcast. Please feel free to join un-muted so you say hello as you join. We'll start more or less at 7pm -- Jim has asked that questions go into the chat, rather than having questions during the presentation. When we get to a natural pause, I'll pass the questions on to Jim. That's it -- looking forward to it! I've been using the free service streamyard.com to stream the meetings since Google closed Hangouts, and as a free service it has some limitations, including allowing only six people's video streams on the main page. Tonight I learned that it also limits us to ten attendees. This has never been a problem before, but tonight I saw popups from Streamyard helpfully telling me that there were additional people who wanted to join -- and they could only do that if some people left the meeting. Ugh. Because of the pandemic, Google has announced that Google Meet is now available to everyone, so I am going to do a trial run of that between now and our next meeting -- August 27. Plan A will be to do that using the toperlmongers GMail account. If that doesn't work, I'll see about using my employer's corporate Google Meet account -- we've had over 200 attendees at some of our All Hands meetings, so that should work -- I'll just have to clear that usage with management. Jim offered to answer more questions about Perl 7 on the perl.org IRC server, in the #tpm channel .. I just checked it out (wow, adding a new server to Hexchat is hard) and there he is. I don't yet have any plans for our August meeting, so if you have something in mind for a talk, please let me know! Thanks, and stay safe.
