I'd been hoping to do a maker themed thing this month but got no responses. So, I'd like to step down as the main organizer. I will happily continue to provide Influitive as the space but I think I'm kinda done organizing. If anyone wants to step up, please reply to this on the list so all can see. I will hand over control of the meetup.com account as well of course (be warned, it costs about USD $90 per 6 months to maintain, which I have been paying). Thanks for all that have done talks in the past for me, I appreciate it, but it's time for me to make way for someone else. If I can't get someone to step in, I'm going to have to fold things up. That would make me sad, but I just can't do it right now. Regards, Dave -- dave.s.doyle at gmail.com -------------- next part -------------- An HTML attachment was scrubbed... We all appreciate the amount of effort you've put into this over the years. :) Olaf From arocker at Vex.Net Mon Jan 9 07:14:05 2017 From: arocker at Vex.Net (arocker at Vex.Net) Date: Mon, 9 Jan 2017 10:14:05 -0500 Subject: [tpm] Stepping down In-Reply-To: References: Message-ID: <755eb8377d8c6b8e22522f0054b9a967.squirrel@webmail.vybenetworks.com> I know exactly how Dave feels, and I'd like to say "Thanks" to him for his efforts over the years. Now that it's come to the crunch, will other people step up and help organise meetings? Preferably more than one person, because that eases the strain on the leader. We've managed to get away with astonishingly little structure in the past, but maybe it would be an idea to erect just a little to ensure a steady supply of topics and meetings? Barring that for this month at least, someone willing to give a talk would be appreciated. Pick your subject. My last contract required nothing more technically complicated than being able to deal with HoHs, map statements, and being smart about caching. It was interesting, paid the bills, but wasn't really cutting edge. I have been working on learning Go, and I'd love to present on that, but I can't do that until February -- that will give me enough time to chew through the subject matter and create a decent presentation (working title: How Far I Got With Go In A Month). If there's no talk for January, perhaps we could just meet up for supper/beer instead. The people, like me, that aren't stepping up are the ones killing it. If it's even dying. Perhaps it's better viewed as a metamorphosis. I've scheduled a Social for this month to make up for last month at C'est What. Thank you both Alex Beamish and Mike Stok for the suggestion. Per Abram's and others comments, we can see if we can talk someone (or some group) to step into the organizer role. See if we can cobble a cabal together. Otherwise, this will be a farewell bash. Sad, but a nice way to see y'all again. https://www.meetup.com/Toronto-Perl-Mongers/events/236889684/ Regards, Dave -- dave.s.doyle at gmail.com On 12 January 2017 at 13:42, Alex Beamish wrote: > Hi Dave, > > Belated thanks for stepping in to keep TPM going .. having been away from > web development for eighteen months, I don't have anything novel to offer > in terms of a presentation.
