From olaf.alders at gmail.com Mon Jan 5 11:37:37 2015 From: olaf.alders at gmail.com (Olaf Alders) Date: Mon, 5 Jan 2015 14:37:37 -0500 Subject: [tpm] January meeting: Building a Technology Startup (Stuart Watt) Message-ID: This month we have a topic which is well within the parameters of what we do, but broad enough to appeal to all types of coders. Please invite your (Python, Java, Ruby, node etc) coding friends, co-workers and associates to join us! *** Building a technology startup can be an interesting experience. In this session, I?ll cover some of the process and some of the insider experience on what it?s like to put together a technology-based startup. Many of the skills needed in a startup are similar to those needed in coding, so I?ll draw parallels between them so that developers can get a better insight into the opportunities of this kind of career step. I?ll also ground this in a few real startups I?ve worked on, in a variety of fields. What I?ll cover: Lean startups, and how they relate to agile Building the business model and the team A brief overview of lean UX for startups Tools and resources to help The experience of building a startup (Stuart Watt, speaker) *** http://www.meetup.com/Toronto-Perl-Mongers/events/219621507/ Olaf From olaf.alders at gmail.com Thu Jan 8 06:23:25 2015 From: olaf.alders at gmail.com (Olaf Alders) Date: Thu, 8 Jan 2015 09:23:25 -0500 Subject: [tpm] CPAN Pull Request Challenge Message-ID: <0CD9328F-41E2-4DD5-B8B1-9482998CBFF3@gmail.com> There's still time to sign up: http://blogs.perl.org/users/neilb/2014/12/take-the-2015-cpan-pull-request-challenge.html Olaf From olaf.alders at gmail.com Thu Jan 15 17:51:37 2015 From: olaf.alders at gmail.com (Olaf Alders) Date: Thu, 15 Jan 2015 20:51:37 -0500 Subject: [tpm] Building a Technology Startup Message-ID: <6664A45C-8F01-415B-8A80-E707295A1D3F@gmail.com> Hi Everyone, We already have some RSVPs to "Building a Technology Startup" for this month, but we can do much better than this. Please RSVP if you intend to come and even if you can't make it, please do share this link with friends and colleagues. This is the kind of talk that has the appeal to bring people from outside of our group in for a meeting. http://www.meetup.com/Toronto-Perl-Mongers/events/219621507 Feel free to post to lists, share on LinkedIn, social media of your choice, etc. It would be great to see a big turnout here. It's not required to RSVP, but it's always nice to see the numbers go up. :) As usual, the meeting will be at OANDA. I'm not sure I'm the best person to describe how to find the meeting room. Could a current of former OANDA employee give the proper information? Also, we have talks lined up for February and March. I don't have all the February details, but the March meeting is an introduction to Machine Learning and already has quite a few RSVPs. http://www.meetup.com/Toronto-Perl-Mongers/events/219510040/ Thanks, Olaf From dave.s.doyle at gmail.com Tue Jan 27 11:20:50 2015 From: dave.s.doyle at gmail.com (Dave Doyle) Date: Tue, 27 Jan 2015 14:20:50 -0500 Subject: [tpm] Meeting tomorrow night (Jan 28) In-Reply-To: <75FECEDF-11C1-4BA9-A876-9DE03A34FF76@gmail.com> References: <75FECEDF-11C1-4BA9-A876-9DE03A34FF76@gmail.com> Message-ID: The meeting is in the OANDA offices that are found in the Hyatt Regency Hotel at 370 King Street West (King & Peter). We're on the second floor (despite what the monitors tell you). Take the west elevators by the security desk to the second floor and give the marked door a knock to get in. The elevator doesn't unlock the floor until 6:30 so if you're early, there's a starbucks. :) -- dave.s.doyle at gmail.com On 27 January 2015 at 13:55, Olaf Alders wrote: > It's not too late to RSVP > http://www.meetup.com/Toronto-Perl-Mongers/events/219621507/ > > 21 going so far. > > It's not required to RSVP, but it's always nice to see the numbers go up. > :) As usual, the meeting will be at OANDA. There was much discussion afterwards and a fair number of new faces in the room. Turnout was great. 22 people in the room. 5 more watching the live stream. So, one of the busier nights for sure. If you see Dave Doyle, feel free to slide him a few dollars to cover the meetup.com account. I think he's going to see about setting up a donation page directly via meetup that can be used to offset the costs. Olaf
