From mike at stok.ca Tue Jul 5 19:27:24 2011 From: mike at stok.ca (Mike Stok) Date: Tue, 5 Jul 2011 22:27:24 -0400 Subject: [tpm] July meeting Message-ID: <69328E62-B17A-4F0B-A394-A9E91C1AD983@stok.ca> I was hoping for some volunteers to give an overview of YAPC::NA for the July meeting, and possibly have a talk on Parallel::Iterator. As Damian is in town talking at the beginning of August, what would people think of moving the July meeting a week earlier (i.e. to July 21) so that the YAPC reviews will be fresher, and the Perl intensity at the beginning of August will be more manageable? If we do think it's worth moving then I'll have to set the wheels in motion to arrange the room and access; I'll also have to check that a week's change is OK for the speakers. I decided to try my old web-app on my new tablet computer (A Barnes & Noble Nook Color, running Cyanogen mod 7 which is Android 2.3.4) I've tried a variety of browsers, without much success. Firefox 5.0 Dolphin 5.1.0 Opera 11.10... built-in browser The only one that seems to work is Opera. The rest have varying degrees of work-iness. For example: Firefox: Doesn't show me the whole screen and won't let me scroll or select stuff. Dolphin: Some tables don't show up (some do) Built-in: Scrolling around on pages only works when 'zoomed in'. Opera: Seems to work fine. But I don't seem to have problems with any of these browsers on 'other' web sites. So I'd like to know what I'm doing differently that's causing these browsers grief. Any suggestions for how to accomplish that (besides stripping my app back down to the bare minimum, and building it back up on each browser till I find out what breaks them?) It'll have to be something like that; rather than chopping up the code, you could save a generated page and submit smaller subsets of it until it stops breaking. But as a followup to my own message... Here's what I've since discovered: 1/ I was having trouble with a Javascript function that used setTimeout() to create a countdown clock on the browser. The basic code is below. Note that there is a text field and also a function both called 'tmo'. The 'mobile Firefox' was apparently getting confused, (whereas all other browsers (over the last 12 years) don't have an issue). The workaround/fix was to rename either the field, or the function so that they were unique. ... ... 2/ It seems that there is a bug in Firefox (mobile) w.r.t. frames. They doesn't work! (yet) Apparently it is a known bug, and will be 'fixed in the next release'. --------------- Another general observation for people building pages for mobile/table browsers... Don't rely on being able to scroll horizontally on 'wide' pages! Some browsers ('cough') Firefox allow you to scroll horizontally to get at Firefox features, so when you try to scroll to see the rest of your page's width, the browser instead scrolls itself so you can get to the browser's options. Hope this helps someone else. Fulko -------------- next part -------------- An HTML attachment was scrubbed...
