For January?s meet-up it?s Oxford time again. Anyone want to suggest a handy pub? I?d be happy to go to the Jam Factory[1] again, but also happy to try other venues that aren?t too loud and have good beer.

Filled in the poll :)

I see you went to the White Rabbit already, which is central has nice
beer but might not qualify as 'not too loud'. I've not been there very
recently but The Royal Blenheim is another good central choice, though
they have a pub quiz on Wednesdays.

If you guys are interested in running tech talks in Maidenhead in future,
it would be great to team up. Nothing to sell here, and no agenda other
than community building. Happy to help in any way possible.

Are you saying the TVPM Tech meet is cancelled, if we decide to go to the Maidenhead event? =P.

I'm down for anything Reading and Oxford. Unsure about Maidenhead. Would have to look into it and then decide.

I also did a Youtube video on something I coded in Perl back in August:

I could possibly adapt it to a talk.

I could 'in theory' do a talk about the difficulty breaking into a new 
language / toolkit / skill. As an out of date programmer I find myself 
often frustrated at how everyone but me has the answer I need but nobody 
is willing to share. This is off the cuff though so I haven't got 
anything thought through.

Just for February?s get-together.

For February we?d said we?ll do 10-minute tech talks, from as many people are keen/happy/coercible to give one.

Where would this be held? In Marlow?

Maindenhead is pretty easy to get to on the train from most of the TVPM 
area, but Marlow less so. OTOH, my talk topic is likely to be too 
Perlish for the Maidenhead tech meet. So I'm torn.

As regards Andrew's suggestion of having two talk meetings, let's take 
it one step at a time. I think it's a bit much to have talks organised 
by TVPM in two consecutive months, given how many people we seem to have 
volunteering and attending.

I?ve found us an option for having dedicated Perl tech talks, in Marlow. It?s the Nuance office, where we had them a year and a half ago. Or was it 2.5 years ago?

So far only Roger and I have filled this in. Does that mean that

  (a) most people can?t make Tuesdays, or
  (b) most people aren?t that interested in doing a tech talks session, or
  (c) most people are busy finishing their tax return, and will think about other things after Tuesday, or

I?ll chase whoever is in Oxford tomorrow night!

Okay, my bad, that was a Windows '98 thing.

Just tried the link on OSX 10.9.5 and it works fine, =).

Was thrown, because in the past - the dudle links have been fine on my Win98 machine.

Not sure what to enter, am generally unlikely to turn up to any Marlow events in Feb.

Am pretty much on this group for the odd Oxford and Reading events.

We generally get our best turnouts in Reading, so maybe we should try to have the tech talks in Reading.

I remembered the RISC (in Reading) where we did something a few years 
back:
http://risc.org.uk/room-hire

It has a small amount of free parking and is opposite a large multi 
storey. I can cover the room hire cost.
