From oliver at cpan.org Tue Jan 6 01:17:07 2015 From: oliver at cpan.org (Oliver Gorwits) Date: Tue, 06 Jan 2015 09:17:07 +0000 Subject: [Thamesvalley-pm] CPAN Pull Request Challenge Message-ID: Hi folks, and Happy New Year to all, I'd like to let you know about the CPAN Pull Request Challenge: "If you join the CPAN pull request challenge, then at the start of each month in 2015 you'll be emailed a (somewhat) randomly selected CPAN distribution. You'll have one month to submit at least one pull request. You don't have to be an experienced Perl programmer, CPAN author, or githubber. The goal is to help others, possibly learn something, and hopefully have a bit of fun." So the idea (AIUI) is that you get assigned a random CPAN distribution each month, and during that month you visit the code repository, fix or update something, and send a pull request back to the author. I think there's no penalty if you don't manage to get anything done :-). The key thing is not to worry too much about your experience. You can ask here for help! Hopefully by December you'll have got the hang of it and perhaps learned a few things along the way. For more information, follow one of the links on this summary page: http://perlmaven.com/2015-cpan-pull-request-challenge regards, oliver. I got Module::Starter this month. I have not been to a Perl mongers meeting since the one in Marlow before LPW. Have I been missing them, or have they not happened? When is the next meeting ? -- David. There was vague talk of the next social being towards Oxford way to stick with the "on tour" theme within the Thames Valley. I'd be good if any list subscribers that way could let me know there's interest. Otherwise as soon as I have some round tuits I'll try to arrange something :-) regards, oliver.
