From cbrink at christianbrink.com Fri Apr 3 19:48:21 2009 From: cbrink at christianbrink.com (Christian Brink) Date: Fri, 03 Apr 2009 22:48:21 -0400 Subject: [Tampa-pm] The resurrection of TampaBay Perl Mongers Message-ID: <49D6CA75.4090709@christianbrink.com> I am very happy to announce the resurrection of TampaBay Perl Mongers. My name is Christian Brink and I have been granted honor of starting TampaBay.PM back up again. I was heavily involved in starting up PDX.PM (Portland,OR) again and helped it grow into a strong and very active Perl Monger group. I hope to do the same here in Tampa. We are going to start technical and social meetings right away. Our first meetings will be this month. Later on we will be adding training classes to help starting Perl programmers. But our biggest goal is to be a service to you and all the other Perl programmers in the Tampa Bay area. We have a new website located at http://tampabay.pm.org . Please feel free to stop by or sign up. We will be posting meetings, schedules, general information there. We also already have some articles. If you sign up for a free account you do get your own blog, and the ability to post articles, and polls. We are going to setting a permanent schedule for meetings, but as meeting come up we will be announcing them on the website and here on the mailing list. We will have the schedule for meetings decided by Sunday and I will make an announcement here on the list and add the schedule to the website. TampaBay.PM is free. There is no charge for any of the meetings or classes. We are all volunteers. If you do have any suggestions, questions or offers to volunteer :) please feel free to email me or to the list. Thanks and I hope to see you at our April meetings, Christian Brink From cbrink at christianbrink.com Wed Apr 8 14:34:13 2009 From: cbrink at christianbrink.com (Christian Brink) Date: Wed, 08 Apr 2009 17:34:13 -0400 Subject: [Tampa-pm] Tampa Bay Perl Mongers Social Meeting 04-09-2009 Message-ID: The Tampa Bay Perl Mongers welcome you, to our April 2009 Social Meeting Date: 04-09-2009 Time: 6:30pm Location: [Dubliner Pub](http://www.thedublineririshpub.com) Details: http://tampabay.pm.org/about/April_2009_Social_Meeting Our first social gathering of the new Tampa Bay Perl Mongers. Unfortunately a lot of it is our old code. What do you do about it? The first step in refactoring is Self-Documenting Code. It's also the easiest and will often get you big gain in maintainability. Whether you write in Perl, Python, Ruby,... Self-Documenting code will save you the pain as you revisit your old code, be a month or a year. It's more than a good habit to get into it will actually lead to better factored code in the first place. Although this talk will be focusing on Perl, it is meant for any high level language and all developers are welcome. ## Presentation 2 ## ### Perl's Modern Object System - using Moose with MooseX::Declare - Lots 'o Sugar ### Presented by: Dylan Hardison With MooseX::Declare you can to think more about what you want to do and less about the mechanics of OOP. - Be dazzeled by an easy, clean, declarative, but powerful way to define your classes. - Marvel at the benefits of using Roles to shrink you inheirtence heirarchy. - Feel the goosebumpily joy of creating accessor and mutators with type constraints on-the-fly. - Drink with all the extra time you will have.
