Sorry about the nitpicking, but the above quotation does not mean much in
French as it stands.
Perhaps you meant:
"J'ai écrit une longue lettre parce que je n'ai pas eu le loisir de la faire
plus courte."
or:
"Je vous écris une longue lettre parce que je n'ai pas le temps d'en écrire
une courte."

Again, i don't mean to be a pedantic jerk-ess, but mister Pascal was a
wonderful philosopher, one of our all-time national treasures, and I would
hate for him to sound so inarticulate...  ;)
