van der Rohe, streamlining designs to the point of  turning cities
into exercises in geometry and repetition, with an endless succession
of avenues, street blocks, cube-like buildings, columns, windows, and
so on.  The simplicity of modern architecture quickly degenerated into
the Brutalist trend of unwieldy masses of concrete and glass."
