Worth Perl mongers (dfw.pm) on Monday night August 8, at 8pm CDT (GMT - 500). This talk will be about dataflow, a way to organize and architect your software which has many advantages. It is an expanded version of the lightning talk I gave in June at The Perl Conference in Orlando. If you plan to attend online, please install the hangouts app/plugin from google.com/hangouts ? This will allow you to view the live video stream, but if you'd like to participate interactively, please send your google ID *in advance* to dfw.perlmongers at gmail.com and we'll add you to the online classroom. -- Tommy Butler, John Fields, DFW.pm I will aim to answer questions via hangouts chat. thanx, Uri Guttman -------------- next part -------------- An HTML attachment was scrubbed... I work at Craigslist and prior to that, Booking.com. I have done a few talks in the past on a number of subjects, but with most of them centered around my experiences hacking in Perl. I'd be happy to update any of them and give them for the group. Here's my speakerdeck page: https://speakerdeck.com/reyjrar/ Most of those are technical talks on one or more of: Perl, Elasticsearch, Graphite, PostgreSQL, Security, and Regular Expressions. I've been kicking around a talk titled something like "Computer Security and Privacy for Programmers" that's a security awareness talk designed to be interesting and engaging for people with a background in programming. Basically, how to not get owned while you navigate the tubes of the interwebs like a pro. I also have a few interesting personal projects I hack on in my spare time I could introduce/explain: https://github.com/reyjrar/es-utils Elasticsearch Maintenance, Monitoring, and Data Exploration CLIs in Perl! https://github.com/reyjrar/DreamCatcher Passive DNS Monitoring and Active DNS tomfoolery for the lazy in Perl / PostgreSQL Let me know if any of that sounds good, -- Brad Lhotsky -------------- next part -------------- An HTML attachment was scrubbed... Since you're asking the group, maybe someone else would want to chime in... your DNS Monitoring talk might be a good follow on to Fred's last talk. (By the way, sorry about the long silence on my end... I've been holed-up trying to clean up some old software projects of mine that possibly I should've just let die...) I don't necessarily see "PostgreSQL vs Graphite" as a subject I can speak to though. They are both awesome tools and I'd never use one for the same purpose as I'd use the other. But I think the two projects embody some of the best aspects of Perl. I had an idea for a talk about "what data store to use for what?" It's not a 'vs' but a "What are the strengths and weakness of various data stores?" On my radar are PostgreSQL, MySQL, Graphite, OpenTSDB, and ElasticSearch. I can cover how a project might use 2 or 3 of the projects together for better results.
