In case you haven't been following chromatic's crusade to teach people how to write better, more modern, Perl code, his book on the subject is not only out, it's freely available as a PDF or ePub file:

He's a good writer and covers the subject pretty well. I've learned some interesting things already and I'm still only a few chapters in. The book is accessible to newcomers and old hands alike, so take a look-see.
