Stay in the main avenidas, like Revolucion and there some awesome nightclubs. If there is a long line to get in, do not be shy, ask for the manager or owner and tell them that you are Randal and you are visiting for the weekend and that you are a computer god and they might let you in. I am not kidding about this. Besides the bars of TJ, you can always go to Rosarito, which is only about 35 minutes from the border and go to "Papas and Beer". That is the place to party. This bar has an indoor Volleyball field and if you are at the bar, be aware that the ball sometime makes its way into the bar. Of course if the weather is shitty then don't go. The primary purpose of this trip is for Bill to see the nightscene Saturday Night near the Sheraton Harbor Island, and to chat with a few bar owners to set up negotiations for a place for our Stonehenge party. So I asked him about timing, and he suggests that we meet at my overnight hotel (NOT the sheraton - that place is expensive!) at 6:30pm saturday, and then decide from there where to go for dinner together, and what to do next. So, in absence of a much better plan, I'll see you all in the lobby at: QUALITY INN AIRPORT-SEA WORLD 2901 NIMITZ BLVD at 6:30pm on saturday, and we can caravan from there. (Yeah, a cheap hotel. :) I'll be riding in a friend's car, so I have wheels if someone wants to make an alternate meeting place instead. -- Randal L. If you're using dropdowns, why not put the number in the value, and the name as the text, avoiding the interim step. I realize it's an HTML solution, but it might be simpler. :-\ - Joe -- Joe Crawford * I am a Web Designer and Developer; * Find out about me at : http://www.ArtLung.com * A Mailing List for San Diego Web Folks : http://WebSanDiego.org ~sdpm~ The posting address is: san-diego-pm-list@hfb.pm.org List requests should be sent to: majordomo@hfb.pm.org If you ever want to remove yourself from this mailing list, you can send mail to with the following command in the body of your email message: unsubscribe san-diego-pm-list If you ever need to get in contact with the owner of the list, (if you have trouble unsubscribing, or have questions about the list itself) send email to . However, if you aren't aware of Perl hashes, you are missing a large chunk of the power of the language. my %months; # there are more elegant ways to initialize a hash # but this will do: $months{'jan'} = 1; ... $months{'dec'} = 12; ... $num = $months{lc($q->param('month'))); ~sdpm~ The posting address is: san-diego-pm-list@hfb.pm.org List requests should be sent to: majordomo@hfb.pm.org If you ever want to remove yourself from this mailing list, you can send mail to with the following command in the body of your email message: unsubscribe san-diego-pm-list If you ever need to get in contact with the owner of the list, (if you have trouble unsubscribing, or have questions about the list itself) send email to . So, actually, it boils down to $num = $months{$q->param('month')}; After you have gotten Joe's solution working, go read up on hashes. They are very simple, and very powerful. Then, go read up on anonymous hashes. They provide you with a fabulous way to implement records and other very nifty data structures with Perl. They are slightly more complicated than simple, named hashes. You'll want to grok anonymous arrays, too! ...Russ ~sdpm~ The posting address is: san-diego-pm-list@hfb.pm.org List requests should be sent to: majordomo@hfb.pm.org If you ever want to remove yourself from this mailing list, you can send mail to with the following command in the body of your email message: unsubscribe san-diego-pm-list If you ever need to get in contact with the owner of the list, (if you have trouble unsubscribing, or have questions about the list itself) send email to . Here's another solution that requires less code than building a hash. Take the first three letters of the month in $q->param('month'), find its position in a string of months, then divide the result by 3 and you'll have the month number. $monthNum = index("???JanFebMarAprMayJunJulAugSepOctNovDec", substr($q->param('month'), 0, 3)) / 3; -- Jeff Jungblut jeff@soapzone.com http://soapzone.com/ ~sdpm~ The posting address is: san-diego-pm-list@hfb.pm.org List requests should be sent to: majordomo@hfb.pm.org If you ever want to remove yourself from this mailing list, you can send mail to with the following command in the body of your email message: unsubscribe san-diego-pm-list If you ever need to get in contact with the owner of the list, (if you have trouble unsubscribing, or have questions about the list itself) send email to .
