I have updated the web site with last meeting's minutes. They are included below. Also, we forgot to figure out anything in particular to do at the next meeting (Next Wed, Sep 15), so if you have any ideas or anything you'd like to go over, let me know. Last meeting, we only went over 1 script, so if you have something you'd like to talk about, let me know and we can do that. ----------------------------- 08.18.1999 Agenda: Socialize We will go over each person's favorite script or modules, with a short discussion following each. If you don't have one, show up and listen to what other people like to use. You might find a new tool that's interesting and useful. Decide on what we want to hear about at the next meeting, and who wants to speak. Attendees Brian Mathis Bob Rhode Pat Ludwig Meeting Summary Socailize. Enjoyed some good computer geek talk for a while Brian Mathis went over a cool little script he wrote for his japh (Just Another Perl Hacker). Basically, it's a small, 4 line script that is meant to go in your signature, and, when run, prints out "Just Another Perl Hacker". The goal is to make it as clever and hard to figure out as possible. You can find the code here. Talked some more about some cool stuff. You can do tons of stuff with it. There is some nonsense that often goes on where pages redirect to themselves or other pages somewhat transparently at the browser and pick up cookies along the way. LWP needs to emulate this behavior. Just wanted to see if others have run up against this. A general LWP discussion would suffice too. I have a CGI Javascript/perl script I could discuss If folks are interested in CGI stuff too. I have a CGI > Javascript/perl script I could discuss If folks are interested in CGI stuff > too. > > Tony Ok, well, let's see.. over the past few meetings a recurring theme that people would like to go over is the use of modules, and CGI stuff. We could roll these two together and show how to use modules by presenting examples using CGI.pm. The LWP stuff you mentioned seems pretty complex, especially for people who haven't gotten used to the whole modules thing, so I'd like to se at least some sort of modules primer before jumping right in to LWP. The LWP stuff, however, would be a great example of using more complex modules all together. -- Brian Mathis Direct Edge From bmathis at directedge.com Sun Sep 12 23:10:08 1999 From: bmathis at directedge.com (Brian Mathis) Date: Thu Aug 5 00:19:50 2004 Subject: [rochester-pm-list] Meeting: 09.15.1999 Message-ID: <37DC7920.118933B9@directedge.com> Meeting reminder for this week: 8:00pm; Wednesday, September 15th, 1999. Information can be found at http://rochester.pm.org. At this meeting we will go over the general usage of Perl modules, where to get them, how to use them, how to access their docs, and maybe a little bit of using the CPAN module. I will also quickly go over the usage of Perl's 'perldoc' facility. In doing this, we will be going over the ever-popular CGI module. This module allows you to interface your perl programs with web forms. This is probably the single most highly used function that Perl is used for today. This will lead up to the use of the LWP module suite, which allows an amazing array of web style functions which allow your Perl program to have the same functionality as your web browser. -- Brian Mathis Direct Edge From whyte at eznet.net Mon Sep 13 19:02:04 1999 From: whyte at eznet.net (The Whytes) Date: Thu Aug 5 00:19:50 2004 Subject: [rochester-pm-list] Meeting: 09.15.1999 References: <37DC7920.118933B9@directedge.com> Message-ID: <37DD907C.B8086C41@eznet.net> What is Boldos Armory, is it a pub or something similar.
