I'm going to try and finish a Perl 6 application I'm working on by the February Purdue Perl Mongers meeting and give a good talk about it then. -mark From bradley.d.andersen at gmail.com Thu Jan 5 07:21:52 2012 From: bradley.d.andersen at gmail.com (Bradley Andersen) Date: Thu, 5 Jan 2012 10:21:52 -0500 Subject: [Purdue-pm] YAPC::NA Message-ID: All, I am very likely to attend this: http://yapcna.org/. I'm hoping/planning/intending to go to YAPC::NA this year, too. I'm thinking of integrating it into a greater family vacation, but I'm certainly happy with the thought of meeting people there. -- Dave Jacoby Address: WSLR S049 Code Maker Mail: jacoby at purdue.edu Purdue University Phone: 765.49.67368 823 days until the end of XP support From gizmo at purdue.edu Thu Jan 5 07:42:14 2012 From: gizmo at purdue.edu (Joe Kline) Date: Thu, 05 Jan 2012 10:42:14 -0500 Subject: [Purdue-pm] YAPC::NA In-Reply-To: <4F05C44A.3030305@purdue.edu> References: <4F05C44A.3030305@purdue.edu> Message-ID: <4F05C4D6.50306@purdue.edu> -----BEGIN PGP SIGNED MESSAGE----- Hash: SHA1 On 01/05/2012 10:39 AM, Dave Jacoby wrote: > On 1/5/2012 10:21 AM, Bradley Andersen wrote: >> >> I am very likely to attend this: http://yapcna.org/. I've attended in the past and think that for this year, time may be better spent doing (writing Perl 6 and Perl 5 code) and reading about Perl 6 on the web. This YAPC::NA seems like it may be a little more commercial (i.e., appealing to profit-oriented companies) than some in the past. -mark From bradley.d.andersen at gmail.com Sat Jan 7 02:25:25 2012 From: bradley.d.andersen at gmail.com (Bradley Andersen) Date: Sat, 7 Jan 2012 05:25:25 -0500 Subject: [Purdue-pm] =?utf-8?q?Matt_S_Trout=3A_Re=3A_=5Byapc=5D_This_is_a_?= =?utf-8?q?QR_Code=2E_We=E2=80=99re_going_to_use_QR_Codes_a_lot_at?= =?utf-8?b?Li4u?= In-Reply-To: <1847.1325900742@pier.ecn.purdue.edu> References: <1847.1325900742@pier.ecn.purdue.edu> Message-ID: I really fail to see why people must take a philosophical stand on _every_ issue. It is a waste. You get a name badge with your ACT info encoded - so what? You can always: not wear the badge, cover the QR code with a funny picture, cover it with duct tape, or, as one person to the list wrote, you can even dance when someone tries to scan your code, thereby thwarting his ability to so scan. People need to wake up and realize that life is full of battles; we'd be wise to carefully examine those for the ones that are worth fighting. Some people act as if QR codes are the hill they plan to die on. Those same people probably carry a FSF "What I do and don't have to tell the police when they pull me over in state X" card with them - good luck with that. You're free to not speak with the police - that won't stop them from ruining your day and forcing you to spend a lot of money and energy, when all you really needed to do was suck it up and play nice for two lousy minutes.
