I like it much better than Perl 5 but don't suggest using it for production code until it is more mature, unless you're an innovator or early adopter (see http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Diffusion_of_innovations) and have time to experiment with an immature technology. I did some benchmarks for a Perl 6 program I use once a week. Here are the results: RAKUDO VERSION PARROT VERSION SPEED -------------- -------------- ----- 2012.05 4.4.0 rev 0 1 2012.11 4.6.0 rev 0 1.10 2012.12 4.10.0 rev 0 1.34 -mark From bradley.d.andersen at gmail.com Sun Dec 30 22:42:17 2012 From: bradley.d.andersen at gmail.com (Bradley Andersen) Date: Mon, 31 Dec 2012 07:42:17 +0100 Subject: [Purdue-pm] Rakudo Perl 6 In-Reply-To: <28365.1356840415@pier.ecn.purdue.edu> References: <28365.1356840415@pier.ecn.purdue.edu> Message-ID: I have a short intro to Perl 6 (which results in a somewhat long blog entry) if anyone is interested: http://theperlguy.com/. Mark has already read it and given me a couple pointers. I'd be interested in getting comments and improving it. It might also be useful for anyone who hasn't yet touched p6.
