The presentation will be Using PF for Home Broadband by me. We will
cover some basics of protecting your home network, as well as a little
traffic shaping to make home broadband a little more responsive and
friendly.

Our gracious host, Wayne Porter, in addition to offering us a venue,
will be providing homemade guacamole and chips for us! Yum!

After the meeting we will meeting for drinks and chat at Casey Moore's
on 9th and Ash.

The meetings are held at the GIOS factility in ASU Tempe Center, on the
SE corner of University and Mill. GIOS is in the corner, to the East of
Sack's. Parking in the lot is free to the public beginning at 7pm.

Even though last meeting was my first meeting, I am one of those
weenies. In my defense, I'll say that posting Monday for a Wednesday
meeting is fraught with peril.

Last night I attended the first local PIGgies (python) meeting. About 7
people showed, and it wasn't too bad. Hopefully it'll go somewhere. Same
venue problems as everyone else (met at Coffee Plantation on Mill).

If you seriously want to crash another party, I very much suggest
crashing the PLUG Developer meeting [1]. Perlers are there, and welcome.
Topics & presentations are *always* in short supply. It's got a venue,
it's monthly, it's not for a competing language, and it's development
oriented...

Sheesh... I'm gone for a mere two months and the python people are
already creeping in!

Seriously though, I've gone to several of the PLUG-dev meetings and we
even had an impromptu perl meeting at one of their meetings once and
it was great and we were welcomed.

I think I was too shy about taking over Mill's End... but over the
course of 2 years, the meetings there had consistent turnout. I say
alternate between Mill's End and SCC.

I therefore propose that the Nth Xday of every month there will be a
perl monger meetup at Mill's End in Tempe at 7:00pm, with pre-planned
formal (projector-worthy) presentations at SCC.

Here is a list of possibly conflicting free-software-friendly groups I
know of to help you fill in N and X:

first tuesday - Refresh Phoenix
first thursday - PLUG DEV
second monday - Ruby
second thursday - PLUG East Side
third tuesday - Ruby on Rails
third tuesday - Free Software Stammtisch
fourth wednesday - PLUG West Side
fourth tuesday - AzPHP

I therefore propose these options in this order:
* third thursday
* first wednesday
* fourth thursday

I will take feedback for a few days, but unless I hear otherwise I
will make my first act as leader-in-exile to declare a Monthly Meeting
at Mill's End on the Third Thursday of Every Month at Seven O'Clock
PM. Formal topics will be announced no less than one week in advanced,
and the default topic will be "Perl News and Notes, Current Projects,
How I used Perl Since the Last Meeting, One Beginner Tip, and One
Advanced Tip" plus the usual general technical and social
conversation.

PhxBUG in there as well (first Tuesday). We usually do sysadmin topics,

There's already 72 confirmed sessions at DCC3, and if more get added we'll

it, so no signed up to actually run.  So there's lots of opportunity.  (Hey 
Scott -- if you'd like to present an overview of what you saw at DefCon it 
would be welcomed.  Wish I could go this year, but I'm knee-deep in a major 
project.)

Hey Lorin,

I don't think I'll be able to make DEFCON afterall.  No one offered up
a ride, and I've got a lot of stuff all happening at once here anyway.
Oh, and I'm between paychecks.  Bad timing.  Snuck up on me.  I've
been frantically trying to finish this project but it's just too
involved and time isn't permitting.  Grr.

But DCC is a great idea.  I've put it on the calendar on the Wiki ;)

I'm keeping an eye on http://barcamp.org/BarCampPhoenix too.
