I'm looking for feedback on documentation, name, implementation, and usefulness. Depending on feedback, I might consider posting to CPAN. Thanks! Here's the docs: NAME CGI::AppError - HTML template-based error pages for CGI SYNOPSIS use CGI::AppError; CGI::AppError::set_template(); CGI::AppError::set_template('/path/to/my/template.html'); DESCRIPTION CGI::AppError allows you to display CGI application errors on custom HTML pages. CGI::AppError sets a $SIG{__DIE__} handler to diplay all fatal errors to the browser. CREATING THE TEMPLATE The only required element in the template is this comment: `' wherever the error message should appear. This comment can appear more than once if desired. SETTING THE TEMPLATE Use CGI::AppError::set_template() to indicate the path and filename of the template to use. If no template is specified, a bare-bones default page is used. DISPLAYING ERRORS To display an error to the browser, all that is necessary is to call die: `die "Required field missing"'; and the error will be inserted into the template, and sent to standard out, to be displayed by the browser. I'm working on a Perl-Restart-Stuff script... meaning trying to execute commands from a browser. So in case I'm away from my computer I can get to a browser and just "click here to restart" MySQL. Or "click here to restart Apache"... Or, to avoid logging in the machine every time something goes wrong, I can just point-n-click my way to a new restart...Or I can direct someone at our home office how to restart, etc... However, I have a couple of questions, they're Linux related... #1: I killed MySQL by executing distinct commands: kill -KILL 7036 kill -KILL 7044 kill -KILL 7045 What I was wondering is: can I issue one command to bring all mysql processes to a stop. For example: kill -KILL 9 mysqld Or something like that? Question #2: How could I feed a "command" from a browser to a remote machine? Meaning, even type it before hand, then by pressing a button I execute a command, as if I was logged in on the command line... Any help would be appreciated...I'll submit for posting online to our phoenix.pm.org site in case anyone finds it helpful... -Pablo ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ This message is for the named person's use only. Use mysqladmin. It comes with MySQL distribution. Can do 'mysqladmin shutdown' to stop database, then issue 'safe_mysqld &' to restart database. These are located in '/usr/local/bin' by default unless you used --prefix=/dir/ when installing MySQL. The 'safe_mysqld' is nothing but a shell script that does some checking and starts the database with default options. You can set the options in it from a text editor, but I wouldn't mess with it unless you know what you are doing since you could break it. >Question #2: How could I feed a "command" from a browser to a remote >machine? > >Meaning, even type it before hand, then by pressing a button I execute a >command, as if I was logged in on the command line... The commands are pre-determined and since the scripct goes through SSL there's no security risk. Perhaps I can even submit the commands through a web/SSL form. On the other hand, I completely agree, this is a major security risk if this script is compromised. Perhaps it's a good idea to finish all the other redundant systems before I get to this level. It seems to me that such a thing would be too much of a performance penalty. Of course, with Perl being Perl, adding logging to your own programs is a breeze. -- - Doug Socrates is a man. I'm trying to get a feel for what a competitive hourly rate is for this kind of work in the Phoenix area. I'd been charging $100 to $125 per hour in Boston, but that is starting to look kind of expensive for this region. My client is a friend and I'd like to give a reasonable rate. Could someone please give me some ideas about what competitive rates are for this kind of work in the Phoenix area? Csaba P.S. I have about tens years of programming experience, with about five in Perl and internet applications development. __________________________________________________ Do You Yahoo!? I have so many questions, that I'm not sure really where to start. I want to be able to charge a computed amount each month for my (eventual) account holders. (Pretty much a standard monthly billing sort of cycle). I want to do it automatically via a Perl program, that most likely will use LWP to send and get approval/denial info. I've done some surfing at CC 'Gateway' sites... Does anyone have any recommendations on a CC transaction processing company? If anyone is knowledgable and wouldn't mind bantering back and forth via a couple of emails to get me going, I'd appreciate it. It may not be something worth garbaging up a Perl mailing list with. Lazyness. I might have some pointers for ya. Business:: hierachy has a module which provides a generic interface to web CC processing gateways. I don't remember offhand what it's called. Let me know if you don't see it and I'll look it up. I've never delt with a CC processing gateway directly, but AuthorizeNet seems to work fine and is a supported gateway (by the Business:: module). Hmm. This would make a good presentation here, actually. -scott From doug.miles at bpxinternet.com Wed Apr 19 07:10:45 2000 From: doug.miles at bpxinternet.com (Douglas E. Both were pretty easy to interface with, especially (I would guess) if you use the module that Scott recommended. (I did these interfaces before this module was available.) I'd take a look at the module docs, and see what they have to say. -- - Doug "A synonym is a word you use when you can't spell the word you first thought of." --Burt Bacharach From edelsys at edelsys.com Tue Apr 25 11:41:29 2000 From: edelsys at edelsys.com (EdelSys Consulting) Date: Thu Aug 5 00:16:09 2004 Subject: Phoenix.pm: Job Opening for Perl Programmer Message-ID: <3.0.6.32.20000425094129.007b1de0@swlink.net> I was at the AZIPA (Arizona Internet Professional's Association) meeting last night, and I got wind of a full-time job position opening here in Phoenix.
