Their office is near the intersection of Lancaster Ave. and Paoli Pike, and is a short walk from the Paoli train station. http://act.yapc.eu/ddg2012/hq.html has links to maps that show its exact location. There's plenty of free parking behind the building. The talk will be Torsten "Getty" Raudssus talking about Duck Duck Go infrastructure and plugins. To answer Nate's question, registration is not required. If we get the same number of people we typically get for a phl.pm meeting at Penn, there should be plenty of space. This was great, and it'd be awesome if we could do something like it in the future. As for next month's meeting, do we have a speaker planned, or are we going for something social? Message-ID: <20120711202645.GC6658@mawode.com> Jon tried posting this to the list himself, but it disappeared somewhere midstream. While we try to debug it, I thought I'd just forward it myself. (Just replace "PLUG" with "phl.pm" as appropriate as you read it.) My apologies for the double- or triple-posting if it eventually arrives. Chris Nehren and I will both be giving talks at Fosscon this year. Chris's talk will be on ZFS, and I'll be doing a workshop on Octopress. You should come too! Walt ----- Forwarded message from Jonathan Simpson ----- Date: Wed, 11 Jul 2012 14:04:06 -0400 From: Jonathan Simpson To: Philadelphia Linux User's Group Discussion List Subject: [PLUG] Fosscon 2012 in Philadelphia, in one month. Hi plug. Just a reminder this is coming up in just a month. Fosscon is held in Philadelphia, and is well attended by PLUG members and other local techies. Fosscon 2012 will be held Saturday, August 11th, at the Venturef0rth facility in Central Philadelphia. This new location provides easy access from Market East station, has both elevator access, and cool air conditioning. This year's keynote will be provided by Bradley M. Kuhn, Executive Director of the Software Freedom Conservancy, who will be speaking on "Promoting Software Freedom Development via Non-Profits." Fosscon 2012 is a free and open source software conference, and will include six general-interest talks, and workshops on topics including development, community building, hackerspace activities, and more. Learn about 3D printing, security, and protecting your privacy. Network with the local tech community and discover new technologies. The Ubuntu PA group will be hosting an Ubuntu Village, with experts ready to help you dive into an Ubuntu install and troubleshoot issues. Hive76 will be offering several workshops, including soldering workshop, build your own flat panel speaker workshop, and an intro to arduino workshop. Fosscon is also searching for speakers, sponsors, and exhibitors for this year's event. If you are interested in speaking, please note that only workshop slots are still available. These slots are suitable for in depth courses on how to complete a specific task or just showing how you've done, built, or scripted something interesting. For information on speaking, visit http://fosscon.org/speakers. For information on sponsoring, visit http://fosscon.org/sponsors. For information on exhibiting, visit http://fosscon.org/exhibits. To register for fosscon, visit https://www.wepay.com/events/fosscon-2012. Basic admission is free. Paid adminssion of $25 helps keep fosscon available to those who are unable to support us in this way, and will also receive a special gift. Thanks for reading. We hope to see you there!
