It will in fact be happening January 15th, 2011, and the deadline for Talk Submissions is December 17th. Worse yet the deadline for booking the hotel rooms with our discount rate is December 16th! The call for speakers is open and we have had some speakers submit talks already on Catalyst, Moose, Javascript, Template::Zoom, MozRepl. However we need more! Additionally there will be space for a hackathon on the Sunday after for people who are interested in getting together and working on a project or two. The cost for the workshop is $20 USD for non-students, and $10 for students. Finally for the first year we are offering the Introduction to Moose corporate training course on January 14th. This class was developed by Dave Rolsky. It has been presented several times at YAPC's here and in Europe, as well as at various Perl Workshops around the country. The cost for this course is $180 USD, which for corporate style training is dirt cheap. I look forward to seeing as many people as possible come! -Chris From james at rcpt.to Thu Dec 30 21:54:17 2010 From: james at rcpt.to (James Bromberger) Date: Fri, 31 Dec 2010 13:54:17 +0800 Subject: [Perth-pm] =?iso-8859-1?q?Drinks_next_Wednesday_=284th_January_20?= =?iso-8859-1?q?10=29_-_Belgian_beer_Caf=E9=2C_City?= Message-ID: <4D1D7009.3030400@rcpt.to> Happy new year Perth Perl Mongers! It's nearly that time again, the /1st Wednesday of the month/ is this coming Wednesday, 4th of January 2011. We're catching up at the *Belgian Beer Caf?* on Murray Street (http://www.belgianbeer.com.au/) in the city from 6:30pm. Call my mobile if you're looking for me/us (0422166708). This month I'm going to try and bring my laptop along, with the Parrot 2.11 release and Raduko Start release that implements much of Perl 6, and see if we can do something interesting. From the web site: /Rakudo Star is aimed at "early adopters" of Perl 6. We know that it still has some bugs, it is far slower than it ought to be, and there are some advanced pieces of the Perl 6 language specification that aren't implemented yet. But Rakudo Perl 6 in its current form is also proving to be viable (and fun) for developing applications and exploring a great new language. These "Star" releases are intended to make Perl 6 more widely available to programmers, grow the Perl 6 codebase, and gain additional end-user feedback about the Perl 6 language and Rakudo's implementation of it./ I am still looking for someone to speak at our gatherings on a Perl/-ish/ type topic. If you have something fun that you have worked on and would like to present or discuss, please let me know. Hence I'll take the lead this month and fiddle with Perl6. I've not looked at it before, and there may well be some of you who are better placed than I to do this... let me know if that's you! I'm also after a few suggestions for the *next few venues*. Ideally its got to be near to some transport, or have good parking, or both; hopefully with food, not too noisy that we can't talk, interesting and 'reasonably' central. I'm thinking of possibly The Lucky Shag Waterfront BarAddress:Station is accessible(http://www.luckyshagbar.com.au/), potentially Paddy Hannan's at Burswood, .... give us your suggestions. I'd like to have the *next 3 meetings *planned if possible. Happy new year, James 0422 166 708. -------------- next part -------------- An HTML attachment was scrubbed...
