It seems like that cat is already well out of the bag, what with a  
few dozen OSI approved licenses at this point.  Figuring out how to  
get projects with varying licenses to play together seems like a  
major and important challenge for the community as a whole.

Personally, while I'm neither a lawyer nor a kernel hacker, I'm  
puzzled by the argument that a CDDL user space and kernel module with  
GPL kernel modifications (which would be a reimplementation rather  
than a port regardless) isn't a viable solution.
