While we're on the subject of vim,  read
http/mamchenkov/blog/vim_for_perldevelopers.  This document is an
absolute must for people using vim, particularly if they use Perl.

Once you learn how to write vim plugins, life becomes much easier. 
I've been doing a lot of that for the past month or so.  It's nice to
hit two keys and have a bunch of preformatted POD show up.  It almost
makes documenting fun.
