Ladies, gentlemen, bots,

     I had overwhelming demands for a Ottawa.pm meeting in the new year, 
so... let's see if we can make it happen. :-)

What: Ottawa.pm techie meeting
Where: Pythian Office (St.Laurent Shopping center)
When: Thursday January 26th, 6h30 to 9h00

On the menu: I could make a short show'n'tell about Haka[1] , but I've 
heard of other peeps and their awesome pet projects, and I would love to 
share the limelight with whoever wants to show us something. So, please, 
let the braves step forward. No slide deck is required, no minimum 
length of time is expected. No reasonable topic will be turned down, I 
promise. :-)

In all cases, I'll make sure that we can have the room for that evening. 
In the meantime... who's in?

	Phew. For a second, there, I thought you were thinking that Perl had a 
bleak future... Now I'm relieved.

	And to stay in that theme of wonders that the future holds, I confirmed 
with She Who Holds Keys (and everything else) that we can have the room 
on the 26th. So we're all systems go for the meeting. Weeee!

It's hardly dead. :-) We rely on it every day. :-)

In terms of expectations for the future, however, I expect:

1) Perl will return to the background from whence it came (to some 
degree this is already true). Silently used for important purposes that 
nobody is aware of.
2) It will enjoy a long life in obscurity. People will always prefer to 
use it for the purposes it has always performed well at. Data processing 
is possibly #1 here.

I'm not sure if the eventual stability and widespread availability of 
Perl 6 will change things or not. I don't see mass re-writes of code 
from Perl 5 to Perl 6 being a genuine possibility. I think Perl 5 will 
live as per I describe above, and Perl 6 will have its own life of 
indeterminate length. Perl 5 could well out live Perl 6... but who knows?

	In addition, Steve Purkis also stepped forward and offered to give a 
short (10m-20m) presentation on TAP::Formatter::HTML and the state of 
TAP::Harness + plugins.  If the crowd go wild on all things TAP, I could 
very easily point out afterward how we are using TAP::Formatter::JUnit 
and Jenkins at Pythian.  And maybe go as far as to get ourselves a 
little Smolder[1] running. :-)

nudging me into having a stab at oraTAP. Oh well, I guess it's about

     As for my piece of the evening, I also discussed the streaming 
server[2] and the slide app[3] on my blog. The code is all on github, 
all ready to be cloned and forked by whoever brave enough to do so. :-)
