Message-ID: <4E36DC8F.5040008@babyl.dyndns.org> Oy, mongers, It's about time I give an overhaul to my stable here at home. Do any of you have any recommendation for where to buy a computer? I'm looking for a strong work-horse, for a decent price (natch). For the time being, I'm mostly considering the refurbished machines of The Trailing Edge, which seems to have the best gusto/cheapo ratio. Anybody got a better option? :-) Joy, `/anick From champoux at pythian.com Tue Aug 2 07:00:21 2011 From: champoux at pythian.com (Yanick Champoux) Date: Tue, 02 Aug 2011 10:00:21 -0400 Subject: [Ottawa-pm] Recommendations for where to buy a new machine? Do peeps want to keep their presence on the mailing list a secret? Is there any reticence about having your name appearing on the archives? This type of mailing list puts the OP address as the From and the list's address as CC. Unless they choose Reply All, the reply gets sent back to the From address, that means the OP, only. I use Thunderbird, which when dealing with many lists (but, sadly, not all of them :( ) replaces Reply All with Reply List. As for your OP, I got a good deal last year at PC Cyber . They had a low-end gaming machine (which means it's high-end for anything else) on sale for ~$500. 4 core, 4G RAM, 500GB disk, but no OS. I have had no problems with it. -- Just my 0.00000002 million dollars worth, Shawn Confusion is the first step of understanding. They're OK but the first thing you want to do is erase the entire disk. You can't rely on the refurbisher to do it. You could be held responsible for anything left there and since you have the knowledge to erase the disk, not doing it could leave you legally responsible. -- Just my 0.00000002 million dollars worth, Shawn Confusion is the first step of understanding. Sort of doubtful given that no contract was signed. No agreement implicit or otherwise was made between the data owner and the end user. I think it would be the distributor who was legally responsible as they knowingly distributed the content. -- Mark Mielke
