I'll be the one presenting Perl, and Mike is going to present Python. Hopefully, the Ruby guys will also be there to sell their gem -- I'm currently using all of my taunting powers to make sure they have the proper motivation to do it. ;-) Joy, `/anick From msoulier at digitaltorque.ca Mon Aug 4 17:48:31 2008 From: msoulier at digitaltorque.ca (Michael P. Personally, I think I'll aim to provide a lightning fast bio of the language (when was Perl created, what's the deal with Perl 5 and Perl 6, etc.), provide a few of the reasons why one would want to use the language (CPAN, CPAN and, oh yes, CPAN), and throw hooks on where to get more information (mailing lists, Perl Mongers, YAPC, etc.). My secret hope is that this first bone we'll throw to the crowd will be just enough to make them want more, and then lead them to eventual real full-fledged, comprehensive introduction to the languages. Too short and not enough gets covered. Too long though and people would get tired and overwhelmed. Thus, we've decided to arbitrarily draw it where it makes for a good fit in an evening. I am extremely supportive of additional osbootcamp events to do more in depth talks. Please note that we shifted the time slightly to allow for free parking downtown. Thank you to Ian Graham for support and allowing us to do the event at TheCodeFactory. Thank you all for supporting and interest in osbootcamp. Special thanks again to the speakers. Actually, I'm pretty sure we could fill a week-long conference on that topic. :-) Andrew wrote: > Yeah, it's pretty much impossible to draw an ideal line when doing talks > like these. Makes sense. Plus, let's not forget we'll have an additional 20 minutes of food and drinks where speakers will be able to mingle with the rest of the peeps and pursue the evangelism on a more interactive basis (unless the food manages to distract us from our mission, that is). :-) Joy, `/anick From yanick at babyl.dyndns.org Sat Aug 9 07:17:02 2008 From: yanick at babyl.dyndns.org (Yanick Champoux) Date: Sat, 09 Aug 2008 10:17:02 -0400 Subject: [Ottawa-pm] ottawa-pm@lists.davintech.ca to close in one week Message-ID: <489DA6DE.5030308@babyl.dyndns.org> Hey everyone, just to say that the old mailing list will be switched off next Saturday. Excellent. Thanks to everyone who answered! All blog rss feeds have been added to my Perl newsfeed. In related news, I finally updated the ottawa.pm.org page with the new mailing list information, and with a link for OS Bootcamp. Talking of which, can we expect to see anyone from the list there (that is, beyond Mike and I)? Cheers, `/anick
