I have been a member of the Gainesville PM for a little over a year and was recently made the leader when our past leader moved away. When is your next scheduled meeting? That is such a good question. Hey, our meetings are ... well they aren't just now. I was attempting to get them organized when I suddenly became employed out of town (St. Paul MN being noplace >near< town). I however still support the Orlando website, and would like to help people organize meetings. If people want to suggest a time and place I can try to make sure they get advertised in all the right places. -Chris From kevin at inscoe.org Fri Aug 13 07:59:28 2004 From: kevin at inscoe.org (Kevin P. Date: Fri, 13 Aug 2004 00:18:50 -0400 (EDT) From: Meetup.com To: kevin@inscoe.org Dear Meetup member, There are exciting changes coming to Meetup.com later this summer! ****Would you like to become the official local Organizer for your Meetup Group?**** WHAT ARE MEETUP ORGANIZERS? Members have told us that they wanted more responsibility for their Meetups. They've also asked for more flexibility on where and when to meet. We've listened, and we're making major improvements to the way Meetup.com works. Starting in late summer, every Meetup Group will have an official local Organizer, who can: * Pick when and where to meet * Contact members of the Meetup Group directly * Schedule additional group events WHAT'S INVOLVED As Organizer, you can do a lot or very little--it's up to you. And you don't need to be an expert on your topic to be a Meetup Organizer! At a minimum, we ask that you: * Confirm that the meeting place is open for business and can accommodate your Meetup Group * Show up for the monthly Meetup and welcome members * Allow members to contact you through the Meetup.com website (your email address will not be revealed) Beyond that, you can: * Decide where to meet, including private homes * Change the date and time of your monthly Meetup * Add extra Meetup events to the calendar * Spread the word about your Meetup Group * Poll members for opinions on just about anything--like where to meet and what to talk about. Meetup.com's new organizer tools make it easy to run a Meetup Group. As Organizer, you'll have access to automatic event reminders, RSVP tracking, automatic venue suggestions, polling tools, message boards, and more. Note that the official local Organizer is a brand-new role, and is not the same as a Meetup Host. HOW TO BECOME AN ORGANIZER At this stage, Meetup.com is inviting MeetupPlus and other select members to nominate themselves as Meetup Group Organizers. ***If you feel you're the right person to become the Perl Meetup Group Organizer, click the link below to put your name forward for consideration: (Remember, you can always discuss this with other members at your August Meetup.)*** http://perl.meetup.com/organizer_form.jsp?qs=93932:3a0155 ***To learn more, click the link below.*** http://perl.meetup.com/organizer_learn.jsp?qs=93932:3a0155 You can also write to us at organizer@meetup.com. (Please do not reply directly to this message.) MORE DETAILS ON CHANGES TO MEETUP * Up until now, each city had just one Meetup Group for topic of interest. That's not flexible enough--too many people were stranded too far from their Meetups. So from late summer, anyone can start a Meetup Group wherever they like. * And *you* choose the name, not Meetup.com--so you can be as specialized as you like. WHAT'S NEXT * If you're the only person to volunteer from your Meetup Group, we'll notify you in a few weeks and tell you how to get started as Organizer. * If more than one person in your Meetup Group offers to become the Organizer, we'll put you in touch so you can decide between you. If you can't resolve this, Meetup staff will make the call. * If no one steps forward by late summer, your Meetup Group will have one more Meetup without an Organizer to give you a chance to decide together who should lead. Meetup Groups are about more than monthly get-togethers with strangers. They're becoming long-lasting, real-world communities, and Organizers will help them thrive. We hope that you, your family, and your friends will have great Meetups. Thank you for your support so far. Best regards, The team at Meetup.com P.S. If you'd prefer not to become a Meetup Group Organizer, there's no need to take any action. ********************************* HOW TO UNSUBSCRIBE You're receiving this message because you signed up for updates on the Perl Meetup Group.
