From nottingham-pm at mail.pm.org Wed Feb 18 04:17:01 2004 From: nottingham-pm at mail.pm.org (nottingham-pm@mail.pm.org) Date: Mon Aug 2 21:33:17 2004 Subject: [Nottingham-pm] First Post: Welcome Message-ID: Hi, Welcome to the first post of the first thread of the Nottingham Perl Mongers mailing list. Y'know, this is something I've been meaning to do for some time - I love blabbing about Perl and I think its time I found my voice in a local setting. My previous blabbings have been located on ActiveState's Perl-Win32 mailing lists and more recently on PerlMonks but I have tended to keep a low profile. Here, I hope to make some noise and shamelessly seek attention. But first, let's get down to practicalities: there's a website to be assembled and announcements to make. My workplace security arrangements don't allow for SSH connections through the firewall (I know!) so I'll be building the site from home. Initially, I'll be letting our good friends the Nottingham GNU/Linux Users Group know about our birth and I imagine there'll be a fair bit of cross-talk which should be fun. I'll add to this later - I've got a deadline to meet so its on with the hacking. Byeeee, Michael. -------------------------------------- Michael Erskine Senior Software Engineer Jasmin Simtec Limited A.W. I have the beginnings of an open-minded and open-ended Perl tutorial for all-comers that encourages the reading and deconstruction of Perl source. I'd look at the web site, but I really hate the idea of shoving stuff into /etc/hosts, so I'll just wait for the DNS servers to update. Thanks for the offer, but I doubt it - the problem's definitely at the pm.org end and outside my control. > I'd look at the web site, but I really hate the idea of shoving stuff > into /etc/hosts, so I'll just wait for the DNS servers to update. I wouldn't worry about it until things have been looked at by the pm.org admins -- the IP automatically allocated to nottingham.pm.org is the same as the existing www.pm.org - this leads me the believe there is a problem in their freeweb automation (perhaps caused by the fact that a previously unknown but existing nottingham perlmongers group was set up some time ago!) > Jim BTW: Jim, you'll have to post from the address you registered with (pm@rjimlad.org.uk) to avoid me having to manually authorize your posts :) . Shall fix. The use of a Python MLM: a point of contention on the pm.org admins list - its been argued over and over but nobody has been forthcoming with a more suitable replacement for mailman in Perl or any other language!
